Bumi Kecil is more than just a school, it is the heartbeat of a community of amazing families on Gili Air. The teachers and staff care so much about the children and their families. Our 6-year-old is enjoying her time at the school so much. She is not only being given a traditional education, but she is also learning through play, being able to express herself creatively, and is learning so much about culture and the planet.

There is so many nice little touches which we’ve never really experienced in any other school. Every Friday we receive a newsletter with updates on what has happened that week, which also has a section specifically about our daughter and her weekly highlights, and on Mother’s Day the teachers helped the children create beautiful cards and video messages.

The Play Cafe situated on the same grounds as the school is also the ideal setting for kids and parents to socialise and have fun outside of school hours.

Having an accessible school on the island was a really important consideration for us as a family when thinking about laying roots here longer term. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend choosing island life on Gili Air.

Bumi Kecil school is like a big family where everyone knows each other. The teachers are incredibly friendly and genuinely care about the kids. What I really love is that it’s not just about academics; they really focus on the whole child.

As for activities, they’ve got it all covered – from sports to arts and crafts. Every day, my daughter comes home with some funky little project she’s made, and seeing her so proud of it is just priceless.

We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to send our little 3-year-old daughter to Bumi Kecil. Every day, she excitedly runs into school and is embraced by a warm and nurturing environment filled with the sweetest teachers. It fills our heart with joy to see her thrive and, on weekends, eagerly request to go to school.

What we appreciate most about Bumi Kecil is how well-equipped the teachers are to create a safe and supportive space for our children. We cannot thank the amazing team of educators enough for fostering such a wonderful place for our kids.

Bumi Kecil’s emphasis on nature and play aligns perfectly with my 4 year old son’s love for the outdoors. He comes home eager to tell me about his daily discoveries. I love that he has the opportunity for outside play every day and he can bring natural objects into the classroom to explore further. I believe this experience will bring so much joy for learning into his early years.

My 5-year-old son, Kauri, spent a few wonderful weeks at Bumi Kecil while we were in Gili Air, and I can honestly say it was an amazing experience—not just for him, but for us as his parents too.

From the very beginning, we felt welcomed and supported by the thoughtful team who create such a safe and nurturing environment. Kauri absolutely thrived—he came home each day full of stories, excitement, and with his happiness batteries fully charged. The blend of nature-based learning, creativity, and play was exactly what he needed. He enjoyed a lot being a chef and making gado, gado , and the amazing challenge of becoming a banker and cashier for the school restaurant 😍

As a parent, it meant so much to witness his happiness and growth, and to also feel the peace of mind knowing he was in such good hands. I personally found it incredibe to be part of a community that values connection, mindfulness, and respect for children as whole people.

As a mother of two young girls who were both born in Indonesia, it’s a dream come true to know that my children can go to school in this unique place they call home.

For me, Bumi Kecil is more than a school; it’s a cherished space where our children’s curiosity are nurtured, their dreams are encouraged, and their future is shaped with care and love.

We had the pleasure of having our daughter Emily at Bumi Kecil for two weeks during our stay on Gili Air — and we were truly impressed. From day one, we felt that she was in the best hands. The entire team is not only professional and well-organized, but also genuinely warm, attentive, and passionate about what they do.

Emily was welcomed with open arms and quickly felt at home. The educators created a space where she could explore, play, and grow with confidence. Every day she came back full of joy and stories to share.

We are deeply grateful for the care and commitment the Bumi Kecil team showed in such a short time. It’s a truly special place that gives children a safe and inspiring environment to thrive.

On a rainy afternoon in England, we found ourselves dreaming of a magical island with a kindergarten—where children could play freely, breathe fresh air, and enjoy good food. With two little ones and a third on the way, we made that dream a reality by bringing Bumi Kecil into our lives. It’s been wonderful to see our three-year-old thrive at the school, making new friends and loving every moment—while giving Mum and Dad a well-earned breather too! A heartfelt thank you to the whole team for creating such a special place!

Our daughters spent a month at Bumi Kecil, and they absolutely loved going to school. Every day, they enjoyed being barefoot in nature — exploring, discovering, and expressing their creativity. The kindergarten on this tiny island brought together teachers and families from many different backgrounds, making it truly feel like “Little Earth.” We are so grateful to have found such a safe and welcoming place here, far from our home — a place we would love to return to.
