Our Early Years programme welcomes children from age three, once they are potty trained, through to the year before Primary. Our Primary programme begins at Grade 1 and grows by one year group each year, towards Grade 6.

Age six can sit across both programmes. Some children spend this year in Pre-Primary, while others are ready to begin Grade 1. We look at each child’s readiness rather than their birthday alone, and placement is always discussed carefully with the family before a child starts.

Before starting at Bumi Kecil, we ask that your child can use the bathroom on their own. They should also be comfortable eating independently, clearing their plate, and helping tidy up after meals.

Other than that, there are no strict requirements—just a curious mind and a willingness to join in the fun!

Once we confirm your spot, we’ll need a few more things, copies of your family’s passports, health insurance details, and some forms, including a questionnaire about your child (so we can tailor their learning experience), a liability waiver, and an emergency contact form.

Ideally, students will commence at the beginning of each term. However, we’re open to considering mid-term admissions on a case-by-case basis, depending on the class dynamics and teaching capacity.

Our classes are intentionally small, so places are limited and some age groups fill sooner than others. We would always rather hear from you early, even when your plans are not completely settled.

That is very common in our international community, and children often find their way into a new language more naturally than parents expect. English is our main language of instruction, while Bahasa Indonesia is woven throughout the week, so children hear and use both languages regularly.

Our teachers are bilingual and support children with gestures, visuals, routines, play, and friendship. Especially in the early years, language grows through meaningful experiences rather than formal instruction alone.

That is absolutely fine. Bahasa Indonesia is taught as part of our programme and used naturally throughout the school day. Children build confidence steadily from wherever they are starting.

Every child arrives with their own story. Rather than looking only at age, we take time to understand the whole child, including their confidence, emotional readiness, language, friendships, interests, and current stage of learning.

In Primary, progression is competency-based. Children move forward when they are ready, not simply because the calendar says they should. Placement is always discussed with the family before a child begins.

Our small classes allow teachers to know each child well and adapt learning to different strengths, needs, and ways of engaging.

If your child has additional learning, developmental, behavioural, or medical needs, please speak with us openly before enrolment. We will have an honest conversation about what your child needs and whether Bumi Kecil can provide the right support. We would always rather make a thoughtful decision together than promise something we may not be able to offer well.

Yes. Families considering academic-year enrolment are invited to visit the school and arrange a trial day, giving both the child and family a chance to experience the classroom before making a final decision.

For families staying on Gili Air for a shorter time, joining a drop-in day is a warm and easy way to experience Bumi Kecil first.
